SUMMER VACATION TIPS FOR HEALTHY PEOPLE By Rebecca Karchere You have to travel smart if you want to avoid damage to your body from the sun, poorly handled food, poor air quality -you know what I am getting at. We have all heard of someone coming back from Cancun and had spent half the trip on the toilet, or getting sick on vacation from breathing recycled air and everyone’s germs from a 3 hour plane ride. So I want to give you some sound smart tips to have a great trip and happy memories. This article will cover sun, airport, and food poisoning protection-all of which I have been living by since I have been in practice. Sun protection: Sunscreen is poison. Let’s clear up the myth that you will get skin cancer if you don’t wear it. Sunscreen use has not lowered the incidence of cancer. Anything you put on your skin has to be good enough to eat. You are eating whatever is put on your skin because it is an organ. We know progesterone cream and the nicotine patch works via the skin so why wouldn’t sunscreen impact the body? Coconut oil is very smart to apply before sun exposure. I use it everyday as my moisturizer all year. Apply it during sun exposure and after. It is also excellent to eat in place of butter to scramble eggs or spread on Ezekiel bread. Internal and external protection will keep your skin healthy. What you eat becomes you! Coconut oil fights virus, fungus and supports your thyroid. If you need to lose some weight switch to coconut oil and use it liberally. The next tip is to consume 4-6 tablets of Cataplex F or Linum B6(omega 3) 2 hours before going out in the sun. In addition, take 6 tablets of Calcium Lactate. Every 2 hours of sun exposure and after, take 2-3 of each the calcium and omega 3. Over exposure to the sun releases calcium into circulation. Too much calcium loss can lead to skin damage, sun blisters, fatigue, and fever. So be smart and take your supplements so that you need to worry about wrinkles, bone loss and disease. Pure NEWtrition has coconut cream in stock for eating only-not for skin application. Spread it on bread or add it to scrambles eggs or a fruit smoothie. Call the office to order yours. Food poisoning protection: Cholacol II is a bentonite clay product that binds toxins in the digestive tract. If you are in an area that is infamous for causing illness from pathogens in the water and food, take 2 cholacol II 1 hour before and after meals. If you happen to have an attack take 2 every half hour until bowels normalize with the addition of 2 choline. It sure beats going to some hospital in the middle of nowhere where you can’t understand the language. Airport protection: Air quality is down right nasty at the airport. It is hard to escape that stagnant air. I take Immuplex at 2-3 before the airport and 1 every 1-2 hours to combat the virus, bacteria and fuel in the air. You don’t want to get to your long awaited vacation destination and not be able to enjoy it. Immuplex is an immune multivitamin. It covers all the bases of the immune system so pathogens and toxins don’t stand a chance. This is also a good idea in the winter to take as a preventative. Caution: You will have a lot of sick days that you won’t use up.
